The Craft is being sold with the condition that they or any purchaser in the future are to keep the Motor Vessel Corvus in its current condition until restored and cannot be converted into a residential craft, shortened or lengthened and should remain in its current layout and any purchaser will be asked to sign a declaration to this effect. All tenderers will be asked to complete an Expressions of Interest Form obtainable from Industry Asset Services, as the highest price may not necessarily be the final determining factor. A copy of the Statement of Significance prepared by David Viner BA MSc IHBC in November 2023 is available on request to prospective tenderers with a very brief synopsis detailed below. The hull of ‘Corvus’ is in poor condition with at least one hole visible near the waterline. It is anticipated that to refloat will require extensive repairs

Motor Vessel Corvus origins date back to 1935 when it was delivered to the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company and paired with motorboat Clypeus for the carrying of bulk cargo. In 1945 it was sold to the Grand Union Canal Co for use as a canal maintenance boat. Following various transport acts Corvus in 1963 was transferred to British Waterways Board and in 1966 was in use with their maintenance fleet on the Erewash Canal and River Soar. Around the mid 1980’s the ‘Corvus’ underwent conversion to a motorboat with addition of a Lister T2 engine and a new counter stern. And continued to be used as a motorboat mostly on the River Soar up until 2006. In 2006 it was retired from the Trust Fleet to go on long term loan for refurbishment. Unfortunately not enough funds could be raised and restoration never proceeded. In 2012 all BWB assets were transferred from government ownership to the Canal and River Trust who still retains ownership. The craft is currently sited at Grantham Canal Society yard.
